The Lamu Cultural Festival, which first started in 2001, is a four-day event celebrating Lamu’s heritage and traditions in a carnival atmosphere. Each year, The Lamu Archipelago, a cluster of islands along Kenya’s north coast, comes to life during the annual Lamu Cultural Festival.

For the 2015 edition, a photography exhibition by Anja Gruca is expected to kick-off the festival at the Lamu Fort on Thursday, followed by the popular dhow and donkey races. During the festival, various cultural displays including dance performances, music concerts spotlighting Kenya artists, traditional Swahili poetry, Henna painting, Bao competition, and a bustling food bazaar will keep festivalgoers busy. An open concert featuring a play by Lamu artists, acrobats and local Lamu musicians will bring the colourful festival to a close at the Mkunguni Square on Sunday.

Lamu Cultural Festival is a celebration of both the past and the future; and preserves and encourages the beliefs and traditions that are the heart and soul of the Lamu community. The Lamu Cultural Festival will take place 26th – 29th, November in Lamu, Kenya.
