A uniquely designed luxury safari lodge located in the private Taita hills wildlife sanctuary. Salt Lick is a place of great quiet and with magnificent views of the Tsavo plains, the resort calls out to lovers and wanderers to enjoy nature’s silent beauty, unencumbered by modern buildings and roads.

The rooms are inspired by traditional Taita homes; round floor plan with each hut named after various Taita villages. The building structure pays tribute to the World I battlefields that exist in modern day Tsavo and Taveta after Britain declared war on Germany in 1914. The entire lodge is built using cement-filled sacks filled as those found in the battlefield.

The wildlife encounters here are simply remarkable. Amid the savanna, thousands of animals roam. From proud lions stalking across the plains, zebras and buffalos grazing and beautiful birds flying above you.
Among the many things you will experience at Salt Lick, the two waterholes right outside the lodge are on the animal migration corridor and are the reason you will marvel at the spectacle that is this destination. While staying at the resort, hundreds of animals – including elephants will stream in all day long to take water at the waterholes. During your stay, the trumpet of elephants, grunts of buffalos and braying of zebras will become the melody of your trip.

The elephant is truly an iconic animal – in stature, wisdom and personality. While sitting at the viewing deck at Salt Lick Safari Lodge, these beautiful creatures stream in, in big groups and with their impressive size you feel their aura and heart warming effect they have when they are at the lodge.

During your stay, take a drive to Kudu – the highest point in the wildlife sanctuary where you will be greeted in song, dance, champagne and fruit platters. As the sun sets, the traditional Taita women will reveal the niceties of the dance by intensifying and rhyming the sound of the drums to the drop of the setting sun.
