There is something so timelessly relaxing and nourishing about a beach getaway. You have the sun in its full glory hanging over brilliant blue skies as you lie under the shade of palm trees, listening to the ocean waves lapping gently on the shore. Besides, you are getting royal treatment the entire time you are on vacation.

When you go on holiday and check into an establishment, you deserve to be treated like royalty and feel like one, after all you are paying to be there using your hard-earned money especially after working so hard the rest of the year. Think about it- we go on holiday to rest and relax and ooze nourishment. I don’t know about you, but for me, to be able to enjoy this royal treatment, I need a destination with emerald hills, turquoise seas, white shores along the Indian Ocean. I mean, you can never go wrong with a beach destination holiday, can you? Well this is not just a dream but a reality right in the middle of Lamu, Kenya. The Majlis Resort has to be the most stunning and beautiful getaway in the entire Lamu Island, one you must visit and get to see what I am taking about.

It is a privately owned luxury beach hotel on Manda Island in the Lamu archipelago, and is undoubtely one of the most unique luxury resorts in Kenya. It is simply everything and then some. Infact Epic might be an understated description for this resort. It is much more than epic. The Majlis Resort is a place where you soak up the style and sophistication of the resort while discovering an inner harmony on an island where you then lose yourself (and find yourself) in an exclusive hideaway. It is where luxury comes as standard and ‘getting away from it all’ takes on a whole new meaning. It doesn’t hurt to want to experience Instagram worthy moments while here, with views that simply take your breath away.

It’s easy to see what makes the Majlis such an irresistible, luxury escape. From state-of-the-art facilities that include two bars, two swimming pools, and an activity center that co-ordinates a wide variety of water sport activities to the 39 exquisite deluxe rooms and suites divided into three beachfront villas. The rooms, all presented in timelessly elegant Lamu Island style, are very spacious, well appointed, and fully air-conditioned.

With a superb beachfront location and breathtaking views over the bay and Lamu Island, it offers the perfect setting and the ideal accommodation for barefoot luxury and informal pampering on your trip to Lamu. Get this- the loudest thing you’ll probably hear while on vacation is the warm waters lapping powdery sand, or the pop of a champagne cork. It is truly a peaceful haven with its ‘pinch yourself’ vistas and laid-back pace of life. Isn’t that what we all want?

Something you will notice and appreciate here is the amount of art work that adorns the property- beautiful indeed. Well, at the Majlis, art is and has become an integral part of the guest experience, enhancing not just the design narrative, but the entire brand image. Art is a huge part of the unique, locally driven and thoughtfully curated experiences at The Majlis.

Majlis’s blissful atmosphere, facilities and the combination of tradition, hospitality and the elegance of simplicity what one needs, and they do deliver on making your stay as awesome as it needs to be. Every evening, at the Majlis, you get to experience one of Kenya’s most unusual, beautiful spectacular experiences of being at the Coast- the dhow cruise. The resort arranges for you to be whisked away and set sail to chase the sunsets in what is undoubtedly perhaps the most romantic way to view this Island and the seas.

With the sun setting, your favorite cocktail in hand, perfect Instagram worthy photo opportunities present themselves. You leave the resort at 4 30 pm and cruise along the shoreline over the reefs enjoying the sunset, the thrill of the sail and if you have company, the more the merrier. You simply cannot go to Lamu and not experience this. It is one of those things you must, must do.

How to get to LAMU Island #NowTravelReady

Regional low-cost carrier Jambojet now flies to Lamu (Manda airport) from JKIA- Nairobi, via Mombasa four times weekly with an introductory fare of KES. 7100 one way from Nairobi to Lamu. Mombasa to Lamu will start at KES. 4600 one way.

Jambojet together with the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife unveiled a new aircraft livery wrap, aimed at promoting the conversation around conservation of the endangered sea turtle, and the dugong, a rare sea mammal.

The branding is on their planes operating the Lamu route. The no-frills airline launched in April 2014 became the only low-cost carrier in Kenya to be awarded the coveted IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA registration) in July 2019.
